The Demo

During my Intro to Oil Painting Class last weekend, I began but did not finish a demo painting to use it as a sample when discussing various aspects of painting with oils.

It is still not finished, but thought you might like to see the thing as it progresses:

While in the class I addressed some of the mid ground and used the palette knife rather loosely on the foreground and generally just played with the painting. The students and I both like the depth in this painting at this point.

Getting closer

I still have some work to do on this. I’m not happy with what is supposed to be the reflected branch. It looks to me as if there is debris in the water. But there is a lot about this painting I like so far. Right now it is resting on the shelves where I evaluate small paintings or leave them alone to dry.
