Not only am I teaching classes coming up soon (Felted Faces Saturday after next and Drawing 102 starting in March), I’m also taking classes.
Last Friday I started a Chair Yoga class and today I attended a regular floor yoga class. I am amazed at how flexible I am in some ways and how flexible I am not in others. I’m also sad to find out how weak my body has become. My muscles are in for some tough work in the weeks and months to come.
I also started taking a Beginner’s Watercolor Class with Doug Mock at the RAL Art Center on Tuesday. We went over supplies and equipment during the first class and I can tell already I’m going to enjoy this class. I may suck at watercolors, but Doug is an excellent instructor and just bounces with energy. He is extremely well prepared and clearly wants all of us to progress to the next level. I’m hoping by “cross training” in a new medium, I will learn to slow down and plan my paintings better. In watercolor there isn’t much room for corrections, so you have to know where you are going before you put the brush into paint. I think it will be good for me.
In the meantime, I completed two paintings:

I started this one way back in December and put the final touches on it last week.
This one I started last week or the week before and finished today. Somehow, finishing the Goldfinch on Valentine’s Day just seemed right.
