Great Blue Heron

I’ve been working on this one for a while. I was almost ready to sand it off, but decided to experiment a bit and I’m happy I did. The coloring in these birds makes them almost disappear into the wood line that they walk along, so when I have been able to catch a photo when they are framed against a darker section of the wood line, they just pop out, but in a weird way. They almost look flat.

In any case, what I was struggling with the most was the background and getting the trees and grasses to recede. I decided to play with some glazing and it does seem to have helped.  This painting is a little larger than my norm and is 8×8″
