While painting The Nest, I propped up the panel on two tiny little cheap canvases that I picked up from a craft store. I had been schlepping them around in my plein air kit forever but never used them. At just 3X5″ I just couldn’t figure out how to get a landscape view within those tiny confines.

Well, by using them to prop up the board, I got some brush marks onto their surfaces with some very nice greens. When I turned them upside down I suddenly saw tiny paintings emerging.

Can you see them? I have stood across a creek (otherwise known as a river everywhere else in the world, I think), from scenes that look like this many, many times here in the Northern Neck.
