On Wednesday of this week, I got up at my usual time but left the house very early and drove 2 hours to Fredericksburg where I met up with the Fredericksburg Plein Air Group. They gathered at the historic Snowden House which is near (or maybe on) the grounds of St. Mary’s Hospital. The gardens were not yet in full bloom, but even the design of the gardens was inspiring. I worked small this time. It’s a little 5X7 and came out much darker than I wanted or expected. Seems a lot of my plein aire work, on bright sunny days, even with an umbrella for shade, come out very dark. Can you tell that is a wisteria in the background getting ready to bloom?
