Cedar Tree

DSC00186

I’m not sure that I’m done with this, but I’m pretty happy with it at this point. This is a larger painting at 16X20 inches. It was a good learning experience with learning to do some negative painting (painting in the sky between the little branches rather than trying to paint the little branches). Not sure about the foreground but wanted to give the feeling of those gill over the ground plants that give us fields of pinky purple in the spring. So, yes, I took some serious liberties from the original reference photo. I also tried to improve the composition a bit from the photo.  This scene (as it is) is from the Sunnybank Ferry location where we went Plein Aire painting a few weeks ago.
